Bishop Tom has appointed Fr Martin Carley as the new parish priest of this parish. I congratulate him and wish him every joy and happiness in this parish. It comes into effect on 9/10 July.
A parish support team is in the process of being set up to help Fr Martin settle in and to get to know the parish. Fr Martin will bring his own gifts and expertise to the parish and you in turn will continue to share your gifts and talents as a new chapter in parish life begins.
Change is difficult for everyone concerned but especially for Fr Martin as he has to move home, get to know the physical structure of a community as well as get to know all the people. So please do what you can to help him settle in – a friendly smile, a few words of encouragement goes a long way to help someone belong.
I have been appointed as parish priest of Enfield parish. I hope to celebrate my last weekend Masses on the 2/3July. Thanks to everyone for their support and encouragement during this time of transition.
Remember confirmation – the oil. Even a little. Oil was often a sign in the scripture of giving healing and strength. We know the uses of oil in ordinary life -the oil bringing out the flavour. Put oil on fish or vegetables and the flavour is good.
Oil also seals something into food. Flavour, the good of the meat. In confirmation we are sealed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. They are enclosed within us – to flow out.
It helps our Christian life flow.
Recall the words – Be sealed with the gift – and spread the gospel. The gifts are the normal human gifts we like – kindness, goodness, generosity, mercy; the Spirit is the spirit of God reaching our human spirit. Giving us energy in the life of our faith, and in our desire to do our best in life.
Oil also heals and brings comfort. We need that in the bereavement, illness, hurts of life. Prayer brings us in touch with the comfort of God in the Spirit in our hurt and wounded world – hurt with poverty, hunger, displacement and unemployment. People letting each other down in situations of greed. We need the comfort of hope, which makes us strong.
Alone we can do little; together we can grow strong; with each other and with the Spirit of God we can create joy and peace together.
The oil that seals the gifts of God in us then flows out and we are people of God’s Holy Spirit in our world. May we let the Spirit out!
Holy Spirit, be our energy in living and spreading the word of Jesus.

As you will remember €500,000 was spent on restoring our two churches in 2018. By September the loan taken out to help in the restoration work will be down to €66,000. The reason it is down to this level so quickly and despite the pandemic is because of parishioners great support of the fundraising initiatives and careful spending.
I kindly ask again for your support this year for the parish draw. This along with the tractor run and a portion of the weekly envelope ensure that there is enough funds in the building account to meet the loan repayments for the year.
Again 1st prize is €10,000, 2nd prize is €1000 and 3rd prize is €500
Books of tickets are ready for volunteers to collect in the sacristy’s after Mass, to deliver them to all homes in the parish.
Thanks to our dedicated volunteers who are helping in this.

A prayer for Ukraine
We pray for the people of Ukraine,
for all those suffering or afraid,
that you will be close to them and protect them.
We pray for world leaders,
for compassion, strength and wisdom to guide their choices.
We pray for the world
that in this moment of crisis,
we may reach out in solidarity
to our brothers and sisters in need.
May we walk in your ways
so that peace and justice
become a reality for the people of Ukraine
and for all the world.
