A prayer for Ukraine

Loving God,
We pray for the people of Ukraine,
for all those suffering or afraid,
that you will be close to them and protect them.
We pray for world leaders,
for compassion, strength and wisdom to guide their choices.
We pray for the world
that in this moment of crisis,
we may reach out in solidarity
to our brothers and sisters in need.
May we walk in your ways
so that peace and justice
become a reality for the people of Ukraine
and for all the world.
Parish Draw

As you will remember €500,000 was spent on restoring our two churches in 2018. By September the loan taken out to help in the restoration work will be down to €66,000. The reason it is down to this level so quickly and despite the pandemic is because of parishioners great support of the fundraising initiatives and careful spending.

I kindly ask again for your support this year for the parish draw. This along with the tractor run and a portion of the weekly envelope ensure that there is enough funds in the building account to meet the loan repayments for the year.

Again 1st prize is €10,000, 2nd prize is €1000 and 3rd prize is €500

Books of tickets are ready for volunteers to collect in the sacristy’s after Mass, to deliver them to all homes in the parish.
Thanks to our dedicated volunteers who are helping in this.

This portion of John’s Gospel comes near the end of the first of four chapters that make up Jesus’ long farewell discourse at the Last Supper. This section of chapter 14 actually sums up the themes of the opening of the discourse: the Christian’s life is not shaped by Jesus’ absence but by God’s abiding presence; God’s presence overcomes anxiety about God’s absence; and the present holds in it the seeds of a fresh future shaped by love, not fear.
These verses also contain a glimpse of some of the other themes of the farewell discourse: Jesus’ relationship with the Father and the disciples’ relationship to Jesus connect the disciples to the Father as well. Jesus promises to send an Advocate or intercessor who will remind the disciples of everything that Jesus taught them and bring them peace.
Jesus is preparing his disciples in advance for his absence so that they will continue to believe in him and not feel all alone after his return to the Father. After the initial excitement of his Easter appearances, Jesus will remain with his followers in a very different way throughout the centuries.
As our celebration of the Easter season is coming to an end, the liturgy reminds us that Jesus remains with us through the Holy Spirit, who teaches us everything we need to know, reminds us of all that Jesus taught, and brings us peace.

The next Padre Pio Mass takes place on Thursday 2 June. The Anointing with the Oil of the Sick will take place as usual at this Mass.

A gentle reminder……Care of Our Cemeteries
Please, out of respect for all buried in the cemeteries, do not dump old flower containers etc in the boundaries of the cemeteries or at gates or walls. Bring them and all other rubbish home. It’s a bad reflection on the community to see dumping of disused grave decorations in the cemetery grounds and dishonors our dead.

Church cleaning
Thanks to Barbara, Pat and Mary B for taking care of cleaning in St Mary’s for the month of May and Tessa and Billy for taking care of cleaning in St Feichin’s for the month of May. Everyone’s time and effort is greatly appreciated.

Take place on Saturday afternoons. Please e mail the parish office to book or call into the sacristy after Mass.

The love that we receive from the Lord is the force that transforms our lives. It opens our hearts and enables us to love. For this reason, Jesus says – here is the second element – “as I have loved you, so must you love one another”. That word “as” is not simply an invitation to imitate Jesus’ love; it tells us that we are able to love only because he has loved us, because he pours into our hearts his own Spirit, the Spirit of holiness, love that heals and transforms.
